Improved help documentation for digitally signing a document
An improved version of the help documentation for digital signature including a new web page "Resources for digitally signing a document" will be available on Monday January 31st, 2022 on MyCLSS help page. This new web page replaces the PDF documents and you will need to log in to MyCLSS to access it.
New version of the National Standards
A new version of the National Standards for the Survey of Canada Lands will come into effect January 1st, 2022. The objective of this new Version 1.2 is to integrate the text of all published Addenda.

Canada Lands Survey System Client Satisfaction Survey
The Surveyor General Branch is interested in receiving feedback from Canada Lands Surveyors to determine your level of satisfaction with our services and tools. The information collected in this survey is confidential and will guide the SGB in prioritizing the elements to be considered to improve our service delivery.
In October, you will receive an email from ACLS inviting you to complete this survey (approximately 15 minutes). We are counting on your participation, as your contribution will help us provide better services.

Service Standards – Canada Lands Survey System
A new web page describing the Service Standards of the Canada Lands Survey System for the issuance of survey instructions, the recording of survey documents in the Canada Lands Survey Records and the updating of cadastral datasets is now available on the Natural Resources Canada website under Canada Lands Surveys. The link to the web page can be found in myCLSS in the “Recording” dropdown under “Service Standards”.
New user guides for the CLSS tools
Four new user guides for the CLSS tools are available online on the Natural Resources Canada website under Canada Lands Surveys. The link to the guides is now available under the Data and Tools menu.
Improved First Nation Approval Sample Form & Guidelines
A new document is online containing an improved First Nation Approval Sample Form as well as Guidelines for First Nation approvals and can be found in MyCLSS in the “Authorizations” dropdown under “After field work”
Delays recording plans submitted in hard copy form (Mylar)
With social-distancing in effect, surveyors are advised that all SGB staff are working remotely and do not have daily access to survey plans submitted for recording in hardcopy format. Mylar plans submitted for recording will be processed as the situation allows, but surveyors should expect significant delays.
Surveyors can notify the SGB Regional Office Manager if they have an urgent survey plan submitted for recording by mail with the expected delivery date. If possible, SGB staff will make arrangements to retrieve and process the plan. Alternatively, surveyors can work with their SGB Regional Manager to set up digital recording.
Message from the Surveyor General Branch - COVID-19
Growing concerns surrounding COVID-19 are continuing to evolve each day. Ensuring the proper operation of the survey system is a top priority for the Surveyor General Branch. However, while the MyCLSS site remains operational, delays in service delivery are to be expected.
If you have an urgent request, please email MyCLSS-MonSATC@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca and someone will gladly assist you.
You may also contact your Regional Office Manager (https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/surveyor-general-branch-offices/11070) who will be able to help you with any questions or concerns you might have.
Maintenance Plan process and form to propose changes to the National Standards are now available
New links to the MyCLSS website (https://www.monsatc.ca/myclss) have been added for document Maintenance Plan for National Standards for Surveys on Canada Lands and document Proposal for Changes to National Standards.
The first document describes the maintenance process developed by the Surveyor General Branch (SGB) and the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors (ACLS) to ensure timely updates, corrections and amendments to the National Standards for the Survey of Canada Lands and the related document Getting a Survey Done. The second document is the official form ACLS members should use to propose changes to the National Standards to SGB.
The links are available on the MyCLSS website from the Research tab under the Standards section. Both documents are also available from the Survey Standards website (http://clss.nrcan.gc.ca/clss/surveystandards-normesdarpentage/).
CLEVER web application is available
The CLEVER (Canada Lands e-Validation of Electronic Returns) application is available via a logged in session under the “Data and Tools” menu. -- You must log in to see the CLEVER application menu --
This application validates the conformity of CAD files against the digital spatial file specifications from Appendix E of the “National Standards for the Survey of Canada Lands”. SGB recommends that surveyors use this tool prior to submission of their final returns.

New FAQ Document
An FAQ document has been posted on MyCLSS Help page. It provides answers to frequently asked questions or problems on Digital Signature and Acrobat PDF/A format. You need to log in to see it.
New functionality for Land Administrators
The Project Number in the Land Administrator portal is now a hyperlink that allows you to access more project details on the CLSS website, and the Canada Lands is a hyperlink that displays the Land in the Web Map Browser.
About Survey on First Nation Reserve Lands
Information titled "About Survey on First Nation Reserve Lands" produced by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors is available for download under the Research menu. The package addresses some frequently asked questions like: Why do I need a survey? What does a Canada Land surveyor do? What type of survey do I need? And much more.
New project search tool
The Survey Project Search tool has been modified to allow more search criteria, resulting in more up to date survey document milestones that include approval information. (link is available under the research menu)

Using the eApproval tool of MyCLSS,Public Services and Procurement Canada Real Property Branch (Atlantic) can now confirm that plans are satisfactory to their Department.
Metrics Tool for Land Administrators
Land Administrators now have access to a Metrics tool. Check for the button on the top right of the page after login. The tool allows you to display approval statistics and statuses which can be filtered by dates.

Using the eApproval tool of MyCLSS, the First Nations can now confirm that plans are satisfactory to their Council.
Update of eSignature Help Documents
The document provided through the “MyCLSS Surveyor's quick resource to Digital Signatures” link on MyCLSS Help page has been updated. Other documents, accessible through links within this main document, have been modified to include the steps for configuring and signing PDF/A-1b with Adobe Acrobat DC. Remember that you need to be logged in, to see the Digital Signature portion of MyCLSS Help.
A Notice about Digital Signatures
The Surveyor General Branch has noticed that some Surveyors are now using Acrobat DC, a new version of the Adobe software. Please, note that to sign your documents using Acrobat DC, you need to go to the Certificate menu, and not the Fill and Sign menu which is described in our user manual. Our manual will be updated to reflect the additional information.

Digital Signature is now available
The changes to the Canada Lands Surveyors Regulation were published on November 2nd in the Canada Gazette - Part II. Canada Lands Surveyors can now use a secure digital signature to submit documents to the Surveyor General Branch.

You can now update your Survey Document Name
To modify the Survey Document Name, click on the Survey document tab, modify the name and then click on the Update Button. A green message will confirm the update.

To modify the client reference number, click on the Project Information tab, modify the client reference number and then click on the Update Button. A green message will confirm the update.
Problem with e-mail notifications
We are experiencing problems with the e-mail notifications sent by the system.
